Yes, I am a member of the Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy and work to their code of ethics.
Hypnosis works by focus concentration where the subconscious mind is more accessible to positive suggestion. The subconscious mind is in control of all of our habits and emotions. Hypnosis gives us more access to the wonderful power house of the mind, where we can very quickly change ingrained behaviours and deal with built up emotions.
The feeling of hypnosis can be compared to deep relaxation or meditation. I find that it is very similar to the twilight time in the morning, just as you wake up but are not yet fully aware.
Yes. Anybody of sound mind with an imagination can be hypnotised. I think this myth came about from the stage show were the hypnotist would send a large portion of the volunteers back into the audience. These people were sent back for a number of reasons but none of them are due to that person not being hypnotisable.
No. Hypnosis is not brainwashing you will still be in full control. Your mind will also reject any suggestion that go against your beliefs and morals.
